How Savannah Walks Went from an Aging WordPress Site to a Webflow Redesign That Brings Historic Savannah to Life
Introduction
Savannah Walks is a walking tour company in Savannah, GA, leading visitors through the history, architecture, and stories of the city's historic downtown.
Their lineup ranges from classic history strolls and Civil War tours to A Walk Through Midnight, based on the best-selling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, along with private, group, school, and multilingual tours.
But their website wasn't doing the tours justice.
Challenge
But Savannah Walks had a problem. Their aging WordPress site wasn't serving the company well.
Savannah is one of the most photogenic cities in the country, and people booking a walking tour want to picture themselves there before they buy. The old site didn't capture the charm of the historic district or the experience of walking it with a guide.
It was also harder to manage than it should have been. With a growing list of tours, each with its own times, meeting points, and highlights, keeping everything current was a chore, and WordPress brought ongoing security concerns.
They needed a complete redesign that reflected the history and culture of Savannah, a more secure platform, and a way to keep their tour information up to date without the headache.
Key Deliverables & Results
Redesigned the Savannah Walks website from the ground up and rebuilt it in Webflow in four weeks, with custom photography shot on location in Savannah.
The design strategy centered on the brand: capturing the historic charm of Savannah while keeping the site modern and easy to use. Classic serif type, a deep blue palette, and archival touches like the original 1733 city map give it a sense of place without feeling dated.
Stock photos weren't going to cut it for a company selling an in-person experience. Many of the images on the site are ones I took myself while in Savannah, the same squares, homes, and churches visitors see on the tours. That photography carries the story and shows people exactly what to expect.
On the development side, the existing content and features were moved into Webflow for better security and performance. The tours run on Webflow's CMS, so each one gets a consistent page with its length, ages, departure point, highlights, and photo gallery, and the team can update schedules and details on their own.
Every page points visitors toward one next step: booking a tour.
Savannah Walks now has a Webflow site that feels as historic as the tours themselves, built on a secure platform their team can keep current.
Results
The redesign gives Savannah Walks a website that finally matches the experience of their tours. Real photography of the city, a design rooted in Savannah's history, and tour pages that answer every question a visitor has before they book, all on a Webflow build that's more secure and far easier to manage than the aging WordPress site it was designed to replace.
